Jeanette Slagt

In the sun around the world

About me

Hi, my name is Jeanette Slagt, I am a Dutch nomad since 2015. I was 53 back then. I had lost my job and being unemployed seemed like a great time to start my life over.

I moved to the Philippines, did an amazing road trip on a motorbike and lived on a small island called Siquijor.

In 2019 I moved to Mexico after a short visit to Europe. I hope to stay a few years in Mexico and travel all over the country.

Around the World

Sometimes people ask me what I miss about the Netherlands, but there is so much new to discover that I lack the time to miss anything. I feel privileged being able to visit so many places and countries. The nature surrounding me is often so breathtaking that words fail to describe it. And there is no greater pleasure than to walk a deserted beach while collecting shells.

On some occasions I travel together with my son. But I do very well on my own as well. When I was 17 years old I started my travels in South America and the Caribbean , where I roamed around for 2 years.

Countries I have visited recently:

  • the Philippines
  • Malaysia
  • Italy
  • China
  • Switzerland
  • the Netherlands
  • Mexico

But I have been traveling since I was 17 years old, and visited almost every continent in the world. I passed through the Panama Canal and the Strait of Magellan to name a few.
